BitTorrent Dips Toes Into Ad Stream

Image
B itTorrent on Thursday announced a revamp of its Bundle offering as a pilot project, giving it a new name, "BitTorrent Now." Heavily used by independent musicians and filmmakers, as well as the BBC and other organizations, the service now accepts ads. BitTorrent Now's first streaming app is available for Android. Apps for iOS and Apple TV are in the works. "BitTorrent Now ... adds our first mobile streaming apps, and it adds an important new business model for our creative partnerships: ad-supported streaming," said Christian Averill, BitTorrent vice president of marketing. 70/30 Split Creators who participate in the pilot will keep 70 percent of all ad revenue. "That's better than the industry standard," Averill told TechNewsWorld. BitTorrent gets the rest. BitTorrent's Bundle let publishers keep 90 percent of all sales revenue and 100 percent of all fan data, and "the 90/10 split remains for direct sales

Best new phones 2016 Sony Xperia Z6

Image
Sony turned it all around with the Xperia Z5, making up for the lacklustre Sony Xperia Z3+ with a far more stable phone. It also benefited from one of the best fingerprint scanners we've seen on a handset and a camera upgrade that made for much clearer photos. Yet we can't help but feel that Sony could have done even more. There are still missing features and undercooked specs and there's only so many times the company can wheel out essentially the same design, even if it has been increasingly polished. It's a tough market right now too. If Sony wants to sway people away from the Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5, HTC 10 - and the upcoming iPhone 7 - it needs to make the very best phone it can. But making the best phone it can might mean ditching the Z line altogether, as Sony currently seems a lot more focused on the Xperia X range and it's unclear whether we'll get a Sony Xperia Z6 at all. Cut to the chase What is it? Sony's next Z-branded flagship

Twitter Users Snared in Dark Web's Brisk Password Trade

Image
According to TechNewsWorld: Data stolen from more than 32 million Twitter users has been offered for sale on the dark web for 10 bitcoin, or around US$5,800, LeakedSource reported Wednesday. LeakedSource has added the account and email information to its searchable repository of compromised credentials. The data set came from someone called "Tessa88@exploit.im," who has been connected to other large collections of compromised data, including the credentials for 425 million MySpace accounts. The Twitter information consists of 32,888,300 records, LeakedSource said, with each record containing such information as email addresses, usernames and passwords. The information likely came from compromised user systems rather than from a breach of Twitter's systems, according to LeakedSource. The hackers were able to infect tens of millions of users' systems with malware that collected saved username and password information from browsers like Chrome and Firefox, the

iPhone 7 Plus release date, news and rumors

Image
The latest rumor reports around the highly anticipated iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (or Pro) have some wild hardware specs and what could be a big change in screen design for the next generation variants of Apple's iPhone. Here are the latest details. Release Date Thanks to Apple's stable iPhone development cycle over the past many years, this one is pretty rock solid, though the devil is in the details. The general sense in the tech press is that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be released in September 2016, which goes along with every iPhone launch in recent memory (besides the unusual iPhone 5se, of course). The specific release date is a little hazier, but ITPRO is putting it on September 13. This is also not a big stretch of the imagination, but it could be off by a week or two, depending on Apple's supply chain and launch strategy. Hardware Specs Rumors There are a bunch of rumors swirling around the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, many of which are fueled b

Astronauts enter inflatable room at space station

Image
W ASHINGTON (AFP) - Astronauts entered an inflatable add-on room at the International Space Station (ISS) on Monday for the first time since it was fully installed last month, NASA said. US astronaut Jeff Williams told the US space agency’s mission control that the flexible habitat -- known as the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) -- looked "pristine" and was cold inside after entering for the first in a two-year series of tests, NASA said in a statement. NASA is testing expandable habitats astronauts might use on the Moon or Mars in the coming decades. Williams opened the module’s door at 4:47 US East Coast time (0847 GMT) before entering with Russian cosmonaut Oleg Skripochka to take an air sample, start collecting data from sensors and check air ducts. "First steps into #BEAM will expand the frontiers of habitats for space," the ISS tweeted before Monday’s operation. Astronauts will enter the module again on Tuesday and Wednesday to test sen
